Oh Southwind of the gentle rail, you banish winter weather, Bring salmon back to the pools again, the bees among the heather If northward now you mean to go as softly you rustle above me Godspeed be with you as you go, and a kiss for those who love me. I come from south with velvet breeze, my word all nature blesses I melt the snow and strew the trees, with flowers and soft caresses I'll help you to dispel your woes, with joy I'll take your greeting And bear it to my loved Mayo upon my wings so fleeting Oh, Connaught famed for wine and play; so gay, so leal, so loving Here's my fond wish I send today, upon the wind in its roving These Munster folk are good and kind, right royally they treat me But this land I gladly leave behind With my Connaught pipes to greet me

about

Sharon Pyne began playing the simple system wooden flute in Ireland in the late 70s, learning from traditional players there. She has since played with some of the best Irish musicians in this country at festivals, concerts, and dances.

Julia Lane’s unique self-taught style has won three major harp competitions. She began playing in 1989 with the group Castlebay. She has toured the eastern US, Scotland, and Ireland both solo and with various groups.

This was recorded when digital technology was just getting started. It was done primarily on a borrowed two-track digital recorder (thanks to Dan Purdy), with some additional tracks done on a four-track analog machine and then mixed in. The original recording was released on cassette; it was remixed for CD in 2017
