Thanksgiving- a time for convivial gatherings of friends and family from near and far; celebrations in gratitude for loved ones, bountiful harvests, and good health. These musical selections reflect loving relationships, journeys made over bonnie hill and dale, the warmth of house and hearth, and the simple gifts of good food and drink.

The music ranges from that which would have been heard by the first colonists in New England to melodies inspired by people and places in our own lives. It is our hope that it will provide a peaceful and joyous accompaniment to your harvest holidays.

Much of the music presented here originated as works commissioned by 16th and 17th century Irish and Scottish aristocracy to be played by court musicians. Professional bards created music to chronicle events and commemorate their patrons. This music has been absorbed into tradition because it has been passed on through oral/aural means rather than by manuscript. It was brought to American shores by immigrants who valued this music as an heirloom

This recording is a partial compilation: many of the tracks were taken from our other albums. It was done at the suggestion of an establishment in California who wanted holiday music but not the Christmas music that is so pervasive in public settings from September through Christmas.
